Red falls within the warm colors spectrum on the color wheel. It’s a bold, vibrant and hot color. It has many associations and meanings. On the one hand, red is passionate, loving, and energetic; on the other hand, it communicates danger, caution, and alertness. The color red is powerful by nature. It stands for many things, but a typical theme is attention-grabbing regardless of its usage. We use this powerful color in many ways. Some people think of this color as the color of life since it dominates many aspects of living. Credit - Jennifer Okafor

Works include oil paintings, photography and other visual art by talented creatives whose far-reaching music output will be familiar to many and here make their artworks available to purchase in a group exhibition celebrating creativity. Amongst those taking part in this year’s exhibition are Lissa Barnum (The Vitabeats), Jodi Phillis(The Clouds), Claire Nakazawa (Haiku Hands), Alannah Russack (Hummingbirds/Aerial Maps), Linda Janssen (Wicked Beat Sound System/Bellydance), Chantel Bann (The Red Room), Zoe Carides, Christie Torrington (DJ Milky Tea), Wicked Bandit, Bea Pierce, Hiske Weijers, audio/visual composer and performer Mary Mainbridge, Georgie Groovescooter and guitarist/sound-technician-turned-oil-painter Bridie O’Brien whose music career includes being part of the 2019 all-female reincarnation of iconic Australian band Do-Ré-Mi.

Previous ArtGroupie exhibitions have taken place everywhere from Kings X and Darlinghurst nightclubs/galleries to a month-long Oxford Street warehouse takeover in 2012 which featured a searing live set by Andy Rantzen and Rachel Lafferty‘s Cherry2000band at the opening and concluded with a memorable closing night block-party hosted by our good friends Soul Of Sydney. Previous exhibits have featured everyone from Regurgitator‘s Ben Ely and Steve Kilbey of The Church, to DJ Annabelle Gaspar and Paul Mac vocalist Peta Morris. All exhibitions are curated by Georgie Groovescooter.

Photos: The Tea Party - Metro Theatre - 23 June 2019

I really don’t get tired of photographing live music. It’s how I learnt to be a photographer. I would take/sneak my camera into every show I went to and, in the beginning, it really was just about having that keepsake for myself - like an old ticket stub to prove or remember that I was there. Eventually, I took it more seriously and started shooting for publications, which then led to portrait work, formal study/training and a very diverse range of work that now makes up my portfolio.

But every now and then, I still sneak my camera in to a show to shoot my love of music and performance for myself.

I also really don’t get tired of seeing The Tea Party live. I’ve seen them so many times that I can predict the setlist now. But they still know how to put on a great rock show.
